PROVIDENCE, R.I. — The Providence Police Department will be presented with state and national accreditation in a ceremony Thursday.
The department recently received state accreditation from the Rhode Island Police Accreditation Commission (RIPAC). Executive Director Cpt. Christine Crocker (Ret.) will be on hand to present Providence police with the award.
The accreditation program allows police agencies to evaluate and improve their overall performance in a way that’s cost effective.
The department was also awarded with national accreditation in November by the Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies (CALEA). CALEA’s Regional Program Manager, Chief Paul MacMillan (Ret.) will present that award.
Providence Mayor Jorge Elorza, Public Safety Commissioner Steven Paré, Colonel Hugh Clements, and other local leaders are expected to be in attendance.
The ceremony will begin at 12:30 p.m. and will take place in the Providence Safety Complex auditorium, located at 325 Washington St.
