PAXTON, Mass. (WPRI) – The Johnson and Wales men’s basketball team posted an 84-53 victory against Anna Maria in a Great Northeast Athletic Conference contest at the Fuller Center on Tuesday evening. The win avenges a 77-74 victory by Anna Maria at the Wildcat Center on January 29th.
Junior Tom Garrick scored a game-high 22 points and added seven rebounds in the win for Johnson & Wales while fellow junior Quarry Greenaway was also in double-figures with 21 points, seven boards and two assists for the Wildcats. Johnson & Wales shot a remarkable 50.8% from the field for the contest while holding a 48-29 advantage in rebounds and forcing Anna Maria into 19 turnovers in the setback.
Anna Maria was led by Yousef Fodaile with a team-best 12 points and six boards in the setback for the AMCats.
Johnson & Wales had complete control of the action early and took their first double-digit lead of the game when a three-pointer by Greenaway gave the Wildcats the 17-7 advantage with just over 15:00 left in the first half. JWU led by as many as 23 points late in the first half as a layup by junior Yadiyah Letellier (Glen Cove, N.Y.) made the score 31-8 with 10:38 left in the stanza. JWU took the 43-25 lead heading into the locker room at halftime.
The Wildcats continued to build upon their lead, going up by as many as 37 after a pair of free throws by Greenaway made the score 78-41 with less than five minutes left to play as JWU cruised to the 84-53 victory.
With the win JWU moves to 18-4 overall with a 13-2 record in the GNAC while Anna Maria drops to 12-9 overall and 10-4in league play. The Wildcats will return to action on Saturday, February 14st when they host first-place Albertus Magnus in a GNAC contest at 3:00 p.m.
