Tribal pow wow stabbing suspect wants charges dropped

CHARLESTOWN, R.I. (WPRI) – The Narragansett Indian Tribe member, who has been accused of stabbing another member during the tribe’s annual meeting, wants the charges against him to be dropped.

A lawyer for Troy Lake Simonds argues that the charges against his client should be dropped because federal court lacks jurisdiction.

Simonds was charged in U.S. District court with assault with a dangerous weapon for the August 9 stabbing.

He was charged in federal court, since the alleged incident took place on federal Native American land.
