CRANSTON, R.I. (WPRI) — Winter weather is wreaking havoc all across the region, and many businesses are reporting pipe bursts and roof issues.
Chapel Grille in Cranston called for assistance Wednesday after water pipes in the building burst. Firefighters responded to the scene and crews had to use vacuums and steam cleaners to clean up the mess.
Gas line crews were called to a branch of the Massachusetts Registry of Motor Vehicles also on Wednesday. The Massachusetts Department of Motor Vehicles said the RMV Branch will be closed for the day due to a utility issue.
Police say a Bobcat clearing snow in the parking lot accidentally knocked the gas meter off of the building.
No one was hurt and the building was briefly evacuated. Crews had to shut off the gas supply, leaving the RMV and other businesses without heat.
There is no word when the Taunton RMV will repopen.
