Dartmouth man facing firearms charges

NEW BEDFORD, Mass. (WPRI) – A Dartmouth man has been accused of carrying an unlicensed handgun that was reported stolen in a burglary last month.

Officers stopped a pickup truck in the area of Deane St. and Acushnet Ave. in New Bedford around 5:15 p.m. Thursday and found the gun wrapped in a sweatshirt inside a toolbox.

Police say the gun was loaded with 15 rounds of ammunition.

Luis Pereira, 48, is facing firearms charges as well as receiving stolen property. He is scheduled to be arraigned Friday morning in New Bedford District court.
