Westerly PD searching for bank robbery suspect

WESTERLY, R.I. (WPRI) — Police in Westerly are searching for a man suspected of robbing the Savings Institute Bank & Trust on Feb. 2.

Police say that when they arrived on scene at approximately 3:55 p.m. the suspect had already fled.

Witnesses say that a man entered the bank and handed the teller a note demanding money. He then walked out with an undisclosed amount of cash.

No weapon was reported.

The suspect is described as a white male, possibly in his 50’s or 60’s, about 5 feet 8 inches to 5 feet 10 inches tall.

He was wearing blue jeans, a blue jacket, a white baseball hat, black gloves, gray sneakers, and had a black jacket wrapped around his shoulders and neck.
