#2 JWU to host #7 Mount Ida in GNAC tournament

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WPRI) – The men’s basketball team, the No. 2 seed for the upcoming 2015 Great Northeast Athletic Conference Championship, will host No. 7 seed Mount Ida in the quarterfinals of the tournament at the Wildcat Center on Tuesday, February 24th at 7:30 p.m. JWU swept the regular season series, taking a 66-51 win at home on December 2nd before posting an 85-62 victory on the road on January 17th.

Johnson & Wales has a 20-5 overall record with a 15-3 mark in the GNAC. The Wildcats are second in the GNAC in points per game (78.4) and first defensively in points allowed per game (62.0). Junior Quarry Greenaway leads the team and is second in the GNAC in scoring with 20.2 points per contest while adding a team-best 7.2 rebounds and 2.6 assists. Junior Tom Gar­rick (Seekonk, Mass.) has tallied 19.4 points per game, ranking fourth among GNAC scoring leaders while adding 7.0 rebounds per game for the Wildcats. Freshman Jarell Lawson (Providence, R.I.) has added 10.5 points and 4.1 rebounds while junior Robert Lewis (Providence, R.I.), a candidate for Defensive Player of the Year, rounds out the double-figure scorers with 10.3 points, 6.3 rebounds and 1.3 steals per contest.

The Mustangs, 8-17 on the year with a 6-12 record in the GNAC, closed out their schedule with a 4-1 record over its final five regu­lar-season contests to secure a bid to the playoffs. Mount Ida is led by soph­omore Ethan Dujon with a team-best 12.0 points per game while freshmen Jayson Clark has added 10.0 points, 4.1 rebounds and 2.1 steals per game for the Mustangs.

The winner of the game will advance to the semifinals of the GNAC Championship where they will face the winner of the #6 Emmanuel vs. #3 Anna Maria quarterfinal matchup.
