Woonsocket officials to take control of city’s finances

WOONSOCKET, R.I. (WPRI) — Elected officials in Woonsocket will soon have control over the city’s finances for the first time in three years.

The state-appointed budget commission will be turning control back over to the city. A finance advisor will provide oversight on budget issues.

Former Governor Lincoln Chafee appointed the commission in 2012 to oversee the city’s finances after the city council voted to ask the state to step in.
