EXETER, R.I. (WPRI) — The investigation continues into a fire at the beloved farm stand at Schartner Farms in Exeter.
While the fire destroyed the main building early Thursday morning, the flames spared an important part of the business; the greenhouses.

The owners released a statement to their patrons on Facebook saying they plan to rebuild.
As many of you have seen or heard, the farm experienced a great loss today by way of a fire to our main farm stand building. We wanted to take a minute and thank all of our patrons, friends, family, and community for your support in this difficult time. While we have no definite timeline just yet, we are going to continue planting for the spring, as we will definitely rebuild and reopen. We will keep you posted as soon as we have more details. Again, we are truly touched by the kind words and well wishes that are being sent our way.
Schartner Farms has been a popular establishment in Rhode Island since 1902, known for fruit-picking in the summer, Christmas trees in the winter, as well as their nursery and their bakery. Area schools often visit the farm for class trips.
Crews from Exeter, North Kingstown, South Kingstown, and West Greenwich responded to help battle the flames. Police had to block off Route 2 south of Route 102 as a result.
