PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) — Gov. Gina Raimondo is launching the state’s first online budget tool with budget and spending data from 2008 to the present.
Raimondo says it’ll help Rhode Islanders better navigate and understand her proposal. She says her budget aims to create jobs and opportunities.
Raimondo is delivering her first budget address to lawmakers Thursday. The annual speech lays out a governor’s priorities for the year.
The budget tool will be available at 7 p.m. at http://openbudget.ri.gov .
It will be updated throughout the budget process.
Raimondo says she hopes it will help engage people in the process. She says searching the budget before required wading through hundreds of pages of scanned legal and financial documents.
Lawmakers typically make significant changes to the governor’s proposal before approving a budget at the session’s end.
