NEW BEDFORD, Mass. (WPRI) – Two teenagers were arrested after police said they attacked an employee while trying to rob a New Bedford store.
New Bedford police said at around 8:40 p.m. Wednesday night, two officers heard glass shatter and witnessed two masked males running from the scene in the area of Rivet and Hyacinth Streets. Police tracked down the suspects and took them back to the Herbalife business they fled from.
The Herbalife clerk said the two 14-year-olds attempted to rob him and struck him in the face with a metal bar, before taking off. The victim was taken to the hospital and treated for severe bruising to his left eye.
The employee said the suspects did not steal any money or merchandise.
The two suspects were arraigned in New Bedford Juvenile court, they face charges of armed assault with intent to rob, assault and battery by means of a dangerous weapon, destruction of property and disturbing the peace.
