Dunkin’ Donuts Center, Convention Center, briefly evacuated

Providence, R.I. (WPRI) – The Dunkin’ Donuts Center and Convention Center in Providence were briefly evacuated Sunday afternoon following reports of a suspicious package in the area.

The Providence Fire Department told Eyewitness News that shortly before 2:30 p.m., someone spotted a small unattended bag padlocked to a railing inside the pedestrian bridge between the Dunkin’ Donuts Center and the Convention Center. The building was evacuated and the bomb squad responded to investigate the package, which was quickly determined not to be a threat.

People were being let back into both buildings by about 2:40 p.m.

The Providence Bruins are scheduled to host the Norfolk Admirals at 3:05; the team Tweeted that the start of the game would be delayed about 20 minutes.
