CRANSTON, R.I. (WPRI) — A Cranston man was arrested Friday and charged with firing several shots into his neighbor’s garage.
City police responded Friday morning to a report of shots fired in the area of Woodbine and Auburn Streets. They discovered evidence of five shots being fired from what appeared to be a 9mm handgun into a garage next door to 156 Woodbine Street.
Forensic analysis of the shell cases determined the shots were fired from a second-floor apartment. Investigators attempted to speak with the occupants of that apartment but were refused entry.
Later that day, police executed a search warrant at the apartment and questioned the two people inside, before taking Luke M. Cabral into custody.
Cabral, 30, now faces a felony charge of possessing a firearm after being previously convicted of a crime of violence. Police said he was on a suspended sentence for felony assault when he was arrested.
Cabral was arraigned Monday and held without bail pending a violation hearing.
Cranston Police Chief Col. Michael Winquist offered praise to the witnesses who reported the shots being fired, noting that their attentiveness led to Cabral’s arrest.
