WARWICK, R.I. (WPRI) – State Police have arrested a man who they say threatened Troopers via his Twitter account.
Captain Christopher Dicomitis said that the suspect, 20 year-old Corey Coelho of Warwick, posted threats to the State Police Twitter page on Friday indicating that he would harm Troopers.
Detectives quickly identified Coelho as the suspect and arrested him without incident at his home on Brook Spring Drive later in the day.
Coelho was charged with threats to public officials, which carries a penalty of a maximum 5 years in prison. He was arraigned and released on personal recognizance with a court date of May 4th.
“We take any threats towards out Troopers seriously,” said Colonel Steven O’Donnell, Superintendent of the State Police. “We will track those who feel the need to enter into this type of discourse and hold them accountable.”
