PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WPRI) — A young man is recovering in the hospital as police search for the person who shot him in broad daylight in Providence.

Police said the 20-year-old was shot at about 10:30 a.m. Monday outside of his home on Wesleyan Avenue, then made his way to another home on the street.

“It appears he was shot once in the torso,” said Maj. Thomas Verdi. “He’s been transported. He’s at Rhode Island Hospital being treated. At this time he’s listed in stable condition. That’s all we have. We have no witnesses. We have no suspects. Detectives are on scene investigating.”

Police said the victim had surgery Monday afternoon.

Verdi said detectives would be heading to the hospital to question the victim.

There aren’t many houses on the dead end road, and some of the residents didn’t seem fazed by the news – saying that violence is common in their neighborhood.
