Suspect sought in Barrington bank robbery

BARRINGTON, R.I. (WPRI) — Police have obtained an arrest warrant for a suspect in the recent robbery of a bank in Barrington.

The Citizens Bank branch, located just over the Riverside town line on County Road, was held up at about 3:45 p.m. Thursday. Police said a male suspect handed the teller a note making mention of a gun, however no weapon was shown, and fled with an undetermined amount of cash.

The suspect has been identified as Aaron M. Lapointe, formerly of 803 Willett Avenue in Riverside. Police said he may be living with his girlfriend on Harvey Street in Cranston.

Police said Lapointe is known to use RIPTA buses to travel around the state and frequents Newport and Kennedy Plaza in downtown Providence.
