Foley and Vigeant garner weekly Little East awards

Providence, R.I.-Rhode Island College junior catcher Matt Foley and freshman second baseman Shaun Vigeant were honored by the Little East Conference for their respective performances in a 5-1 week for the RIC baseball team. while Vigeant earned Rookie of the Week honors.

Foley was named the Little East Player of the Week. He batted .526 (10-for-19), notched two doubles, one triple and three home runs with 12 runs scored and 14 RBI. He recorded a .625 on-base percentage and a 1.211 slugging percentage. Foley went 3-for-4 with two RBI to open the week on April 1, then went 4-for-4, hitting for the cycle and driving in six runs, in a victory over Brandeis on April 2. He went 2-for-5 with four RBI in an LEC doubleheader sweep of Keene State on April 3 before finishing the week with one home run and two RBI in a split with UMass Boston on April 4.

For the season, Foley has appeared in 16 games, starting all of them. He’s batting .440 with 22 hits, five doubles, one triple, six home runs and 23 RBI. He has scored 21 runs and holds a .940 slugging percentage.

Vigeant was named the Little East Rookie of the Week. He batted .357 (10-for-28), recorded three doubles, eight RBI and six runs scored, while also swiping two bases. He shined brightest in Little East action, going 9-for-19 with three doubles and six RBI.

For the season, he has appeared in 16 games, starting all of them. He is batting .361 with 22 hits, four doubles, nine RBI and three stolen bases.

Head Coach Scott Virgulak’s team sits at 11-5 overall and 3-1 in Little East play on the season. The Anchormen return to action on Wednesday, April 8, when they host intra-city rival Johnson & Wales (3:30 p.m.)
