PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) — Residents of a Warwick condominium building destroyed in a fire last month can apply for low-interest disaster loans through the U.S. Small Business Administration.
The agency awarded an administrative declaration, which allows residents of the Westgate complex to apply for loans that help people recover from physical loss and economic injury due to devastation.
The fire March 11 destroyed 38 units and displaced 56 people.
At least 25 homes, businesses or other eligible institutions must have sustained uninsured losses of 40 percent or more to qualify for a declaration.
Agency representatives will be at the Warwick Public Library on April 8, 10, 11 and 13.
Gov. Gina Raimondo says the loans will provide “critical support” to the families.
Officials have said the building was in compliance with state fire regulations.
