KINGSTON, R.I. – Rhode Island freshman Tyler Wilson has been named Atlantic 10 Pitcher of the Week, announced Monday afternoon by the conference office. The A-10 award is his second of the season as he also earned Rookie of the Week accolades on March 19.
A native of Palmer, Mass., Wilson turned in his fourth consecutive quality start on Saturday afternoon, tossing 8.0 shutout innings in URI’s 5-0 win over Davidson. He allowed only one hit through the first seven innings and yielded just three overall (all singles). After giving up a pair of base hits in the eighth, Wilson responded with back-to-back strikeouts to end the frame.
The Rhody southpaw recorded six strikeouts and did not allow a runner to advance past second base while holding Davidson to a .115 batting average on the afternoon.
Overall, Wilson boasts the best ERA among Rhode Island’s starters (1.45) and currently leads the nation with just 3.86 hits allowed per nine innings pitched.
