Abandoned Woonsocket building catches fire

WOONSOCKET, R.I. (WPRI) – Woonsocket firefighters quickly contained a fire that broke out in an abandoned office building Saturday morning.

Fire officials told Eyewitness News that the fire was reported a few minutes before 11 a.m. at 92 Sunnyside Drive.

According to firefighters, the long-abandoned building was boarded up and has been vacant for approximately 20 years, although there have been several accidental fires there in the past.

Crews stayed outside the building and carried out a defensive attack on Saturday morning’s fire, putting it out quickly. No firefighters were injured.

Fire investigators remained on the scene Saturday afternoon working to determine the cause.
