KINGSTON, R.I. – Rhode Island freshman Tyler Wilson and redshirt sophomore Mike Corin have earned Atlantic 10 Rookie and Co-Player of the Week accolades, respectively, announced Monday night by the conference office. For Wilson, the weekly honor is his third of the season while Corin’s is the first of his career.
Wilson, turned in his fifth consecutive quality start, tossing the first complete game of his career in URI’s 2-1 win over Saint Joseph’s. He allowed the Hawks their only run of the game in the top of the third and – in the remaining six innings – went on to retire the side in order four times while facing just one over the minimum twice.
The Palmer, Mass. product finished the day with six strikeouts and allowed only two of his 34 batters faced to reach third base.
Wilson is now 3-0 in his three conference starts, combining for an 0.75 ERA and just two runs allowed over 24.0 innings.
A native of North Providence, R.I., Corin hit .500 (5-10) with three doubles, a triple, five RBI and four runs scored in URI’s series sweep of St. Joe’s.
Overall for the week, he slugged .800 with a .591 on-base percentage and led the team with six walks and six runs scored. The Rhody infielder – who has now reached base in 19 consecutive games – also drove in seven runs.
Defensively, he recorded 15 putouts and six assists while splitting time between first and third base.
Corin shares the league’s Player of Week recognition with George Mason’s Kent Blackstone.
