NEWPORT, R.I. – The Commonwealth Coast Conference has selected Salve Regina University freshman infielder/outfielder Alex Perry as its Player and Rookie of the Week for baseball.
Player and Rookie of the Week – Perry batted .625 (15-for-24) with three doubles, four home runs, 14 runs batted in, seven runs scored and a stolen base in seven games played during the Seahawks’ 5-3 week. Perry, who hit safely in all seven games, clubbed home runs in victories over Eastern Nazarene and perennial New England power Wheaton and closed out the week with two home runs and four RBI in a 5-for-5 game against Wentworth in which Salve fell 9-5. For the week, Perry produced a 1.250 slugging percentage and registered a .667 on-base percentage, and now carries an eight-game hit streak into the new week.
“Offensively, Alex is one of the best freshman around,” said second-year Seahawk head coach Eric Cirella. “He does things freshman aren’t supposed to be able to do yet. This week he was locked in and carried us with his bat.”
Salve Regina is on the road throughout the upcoming week before returning on Sunday, April 19, to host Keene State University (1 p.m.).
