RI teacher honored in White House ceremony

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WPRI) — Rhode Island’s Teacher Of The Year was honored at the White House on Wednesday.

David Moscarelli, a science teacher at Ponaganset High School, was one of 55 teachers recognized by President Obama during the ceremony on the White House lawn.

“America is hungry for more teachers like these, which is why we’ve got to acknowledge them, because every school has teachers like these and we don’t give them enough credit,” President Obama said.

Shanna Peeples, an English teacher from Texas, was recognized as the National Teacher of the Year during the ceremony.
