A parent from Pennsylvania decided to bring his wife and two children to the Boston Marathon last week. He ran in the marathon, toured Boston and walked the Freedom Trail.
He notified the teachers that his kids would miss three days of school and made plans to makeup any missed work.
After returning from the trip, the family received a letter from the school principal, saying that family vacations are not recognized as excused absences even if they are educational.
Should parents be able to take their kids out of school?
