WOONSOCKET, R.I. (WPRI) — A Woonsocket man accused of getting a 13-year-old pregnant was ordered held without bail following his arraignment on child molestation charges Friday.
According to the police report, a doctor from Women and Infants’ Hospital had contacted police after the teenaged girl gave birth to a baby girl. The doctor was concerned about who may have fathered the infant.
Detectives Thursday questioned the girl and her mother about the baby’s father. According to the report, the girl repeatedly told detectives she was walking home from school when someone approached her on the pedestrian bridge and asked if she wanted to have sex. She said she agreed, went to an unidentified house, had sex with the stranger and left.
However, a short time later, the girl told detectives she had sex with Jesus Ruiz, 23, a man she’s known for eight years and who was in a relationship with the victim’s relative.
Police arrested Ruiz in Providence, and brought him back to Woonsocket, where he was booked on two counts of first-degree child molestation.
