PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WPRI) – A Providence police officer suffered a head injury after an alleged drunk driver hit his cruiser head-on early Sunday morning.
According to Lt. John Ryan, the officer was responding to a call at about 4 a.m. when a vehicle headed east on Eddy Street crashed into his car at the intersection of Thurbers Avenue and Eddy Street.
The officer suffered a “large laceration” to his forehead but was otherwise unhurt. Police identified the other driver as 32 year-old Michael Montgomery and said he was visibly impaired, although he was not injured.
Ryan said Montgomery was arrested and charged with driving under the influence, refusing to submit to a chemical test, and several moving violations.
