EAST PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WPRI) – An East Providence woman was stabbed to death in a brutal Mother’s Day murder.

42-year-old Christine Santurri, a mother of three, died at Rhode Island Hospital after being fatally stabbed at her home in a Riverside apartment complex Sunday morning.

The suspect, 43-year-old Yuland Stanfield, was arrested in the area a short time after the stabbing.

Santurri filed a police report Friday saying Stanfield had violated a restraining order she had against him. Police issued a warrant for Stanfield’s arrest that same day, two days before Santurri’s murder.

“We don’t get a lot of murders here in East Providence and unfortunately, this is when they happen, holidays, Mother’s Day and a mother is killed in her own apartment. That’s very sad,” said East Providence Police Chief Christopher Parella.

According to Chief Parella, the victim and the suspect had a romantic relationship.

Close friend and neighbor Sonya Pacheco expressed her grief about the loss.

“I’m very distraught about this whole situation because I texted her last wishing her a happy Mother’s Day and a few minutes later, I came outside and there [were] cops everywhere,” Pacheco said.

Stanfield will be arraigned and charged with murder on Monday.
