Man robbed while waiting in line at New Bedford store

NEW BEDFORD, Mass. (WPRI) — Police are searching for a young man who robbed a 66-year-old customer who was waiting in line at a New Bedford store.

The unarmed robbery happened around 8:30 Thursday morning in the area of Davis Street and Achushnet Avenue.  Police did not identify the store where it took place.

According to investigators, a 66-year-old man was waiting to make a purchase, when the robber walked up from behind and reached into the customer’s pockets.  The two men struggled and wrestled to the floor, before the robber made off with a small amount of cash.  The victim was not injured.

The suspect was last seen running through yards on Collette Street before continuing east on Davis Street.
