Pickpocket suspect wrestles with victim, flees with cash

NEW BEDFORD, Mass. (WPRI) — A New Bedford man was robbed straight from his pocket as he stood in line to make a purchase at a New Bedford store. It happened around 8:30 a.m. in the area of Davis Street and Achushnet Avenue.

Police said the 66-year-old victim was waiting in line when “a young, dark-complected male came up behind him and reached into his pockets.” Next, a struggle ensued and both the suspect and victim wrestled to the floor, police said.

The suspect was able to get away with a small amount of cash from the customer’s pocket. He was last seen running east on Collette Street then north through the yards before continuing east on Davis St.
