PHILADELPHIA (AP) — The FBI is looking into whether a flying object struck the windshield of an Amtrak train just before it derailed this week, killing eight people and injuring about 200.
That revelation came from the National Transportation Safety Board on Friday, three days after the deadly accident in Philadelphia.
The NTSB says an assistant conductor on the train heard the engineer say on the radio that the train had been struck. Officials say a pattern in the windshield shows it may have been hit by something.
A regional train and another Amtrak train were both hit by objects around the same time in the same area and had window damage.
The NTSB says the engineer of the derailed train told authorities he can’t remember events in the minutes before Tuesday’s crash.
