No bail for suspect in Providence’s 5th homicide

Araya Brinkley was ordered held without bail during his arraignment on a murder charge in connection with a deadly stabbing in Providence.

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WPRI) — The suspect charged in connection with Providence’s fifth homicide of the year appeared in court Tuesday.

Police arrested Araya Brinkley, 52, early Saturday morning after they say he stabbed a man to death near the corner Dorrance and Fulton Streets — outside of a convenience store.

Police identified the victim as 41-year-old Troy Henderson of Providence.

Brinkley was charged with one count of murder.

Providence Police Lieutenant Richard Fernandez said Brinkley fled the scene on a bike and was later stopped with a bloody knife in his possession.

“I need to talk with my family because I believe they’re trying to find me a lawyer now,” Brinkley said in court.Providence police investigate stabbing death araya brinkley

His public defender told the judge the defendant was honorably discharged from the Marines, works as a full-time chef, and cares for his 3-year-old son.

Brinkley is being held without bail and police have not commented on a possible motive.
