Braga Bridge Restoration causes traffic for miles

FALL RIVER, Mass. (WPRI) – There are driving delays due to construction on the Braga Bridge, which caused a traffic buildup on I-195 for miles.

Mass-DOT employees have been working to restore the bridge, but this past weekend they have seen even more traffic as the crews worked on emergency repairs.

Mass-DOT explained, “the closures are necessary to perform emergency repairs to expansion joints in the right two lanes,” also saying the repairs had to be finished this past weekend before moving on to the next phase of repairs.

These repairs led to stop-and-go traffic on the bridge into Sunday afternoon.

This work on the Braga Bridge is part of Massachusetts’ $197-million Route 79/ Braga Bridge Improvement Project.

The emergency work happening this past weekend on the westbound lanes is scheduled to be finished by Monday morning’s commute.

The lanes will be extended back to two on the westbound side before work begins on the eastbound side.
