BURRILLVILLE, R.I. (WPRI) – Two people were arrested and will be charged with murder after a man’s body was found buried under a newly-built deck in Burrillville, police said Sunday.
According to Chief Stephen Lynch, 40-year-old Michelle Morin of Burrillville was arrested by Burrillville Police, Worcester Police and the Rhode Island State Police Violent Fugitive Task Force in Worcester on Saturday.
She is being held in Worcester pending an extradition hearing Monday in Worcester District Court. Lynch said Morin will be charged with murdering 60-year-old Domingo Ortiz, who was last seen at a home on 505 Douglas Pike in Burrillville on May 5.
On Friday, investigators discovered Ortiz’s body, which had been buried and covered with cement underneath a newly-constructed deck.
Chief Lynch also said 39-year-old Steven Pietrowicz, Jr., will also be charged Monday with murdering Ortiz. He is expected to be arraigned in Providence District Court.
Pietrowicz was arrested Wednesday in Worcester on a felony domestic violence charge filed by Burrillville police. In court, investigators said when they first went to the house on May 21, they discovered Morin had allegedly been assaulted by Pietrowicz at some point prior to their arrival.
Both Morin and Pietrowicz live at the home on Douglas Pike. Police have not yet elaborated on the circumstances of Ortiz’s death or a possible motive.
More information is expected to be revealed both in court and at a news conference Lynch scheduled for Monday afternoon.
On Saturday, Major Lareto Guglietta said the murder is the first in Burrillville since 2007.
