Man shot while parking his car

NEW BEDFORD, Mass. (WPRI) — Police in New Bedford say a 23-year-old New Bedford man was shot Sunday morning as he was parking his car in the city’s north end.

The man was parking his vehicle near Belleville Avenue and Sylvia Street shortly before 4:30 a.m., when a suspect approached him as he was getting out of the car, firing several shots and hitting him in the left rear calf and thigh.

The man managed to drive himself to St. Luke’s Hospital for treatment.

Police did not release a description of the suspect Monday.
