FALL RIVER, Mass. (WPRI) — An attorney for Ethen Harrison, 24, has withdrawn from a plea deal in the murder and other charges he’s facing after the January 2013 death of his girlfriend’s daughter, Ariel Eluzario.
Instead, a judge has ordered Harrison to undergo a 20-day psychiatric evaluation at Bridgewater State Hospital, according to the office of Bristol County District Attorney Thomas Quinn.
Harrison has pleaded not guilty. He, the 9-month-old victim, and her mother lived in the same New Bedford apartment.
Harrison is due back in Superior Court June 22 for a review of the evaluation report; the court may also extend the time for the evaluation.
The child’s cause of death was listed as blunt force trauma to the head.
