SCITUATE, R.I., (WPRI) – The Rhode Island State Police Department’s K9 has been awarded a ballistic vest.

Vested Interest in K9s, Inc. donated the vest to Riggs, a 26-month-old German Shepherd.

Riggs has been assigned to Trooper Justin Andreozzi, who works out of the Wickford Barracks. The pair recently completed a 16-week patrol service dog training.

Andreozzi and Riggs will be one of seven dual purpose patrol narcotics teams to join the ranks of the State Police Canine Unit once they complete narcotic detection dog training.

Vested Interest in K9s, Inc. provided over 1407 law enforcement dogs in 49 states with protective vests since 2009 through private and corporate sponsorships.
