PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WPRI) — Firefighters in Providence battled a fire at 460 Charles Street Thursday, officials said.
According to a spokesperson from the Providence Fire Dept., the fire was reported at approximately 11:50 a.m. Thursday and the flames were doused an hour later.
Officials said a male victim was found in a fifth-floor apartment and was transported to Rhode Island Hospital.
Fire officials said the man was not breathing when rescuers found him — but they managed to revive him.
His condition upon arriving at the hospital was not immediately known.
According to fire officials, other residents were checked for smoke inhalation but there were no other documented injuries.
The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
