PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WPRI) — Rhode Island has become the 18th state to receive live samples of anthrax from an Army lab in Utah.
To date, 52 labs across 18 states — including Washington, D.C. — and three countries have received live shipments.
Officials say the samples, intended for research purposes, were supposed to be inactive.
The Pentagon is now investigating the shipments with the Center for Disease Control.
Officials say they believe there is not threat to the public.
