SMITHFIELD, R.I. (WPRI) — Navigant Credit Union has awarded 100 Rhode Island high school students each a $1,000 college scholarship.
The Credit Union awarded the students who demonstrated a commitment to their academic potential and a passion for community service.
“The scholarships awarded on Thursday are investments in Rhode Island’s future,” Navigant Credit Union President and CEO Gary E. Furtado said. “They are well-deserved rewards for impressive young men and women who will one day be leaders in Rhode Island’s communities. We’re proud to support these 100 students, and we will proudly watch as they move on to do great things for their neighborhoods and for the state.”
Lt. Governor Dan McKee congratulated these students for their successes inside and outside the classroom. “We need their energy, ideas and talents here as we work to build a better Rhode Island, and I know they will make many valuable contributions. I also want to thank Navigant for its generous support of these students and a long-standing commitment to the community.”
The scholarships are part of Navigant Credit Union’s “Next 100” campaign, which was launched when the Credit Union celebrated its 100-year anniversary earlier this year.
The “Next 100” campaign will continue July 18 with a 100-person torch procession at WaterFire.
