Several teens charged with underage drinking outside Xfinity Center

NORTON, Mass. (WPRI) — Police in Norton are investigating after officers said they found several minors intoxicated outside of the Xfinity Center Friday.

According to police, a Norton officer saw a female laying on the ground on the side of the road in front of Cumberland Farms on Mansfield Avenue around 6:45 p.m. — and as he approached he noticed several others trying to help her up.

Police said the individuals had beer cans, and ran from the officer as he approached.

Shortly after, officers noticed empty bottles and cans in front of a charter bus nearby. Upon further investigation, officers discovered that the bus, from The Original Party Trolley of Boston, was transporting multiple teenagers to the Xfinity Center from Quincy, Mass. for the Tim McGraw concert.

When officers questioned the driver of the bus, William Rivera, 40, of Randolph, Mass., they said he denied knowing that alcohol had been brought on board.

“Someone with the bus company should be checking ID’s,” said Gary Ross.

According to the company’s web page, the company “maintains a zero tolerance compliance policy that alcoholic beverages are prohibited on board the party vehicles if any guest is not of legal drinking age.”

Three teens were transported to the hospital for intoxication — one with a blood alcohol content level of 0.25.

“Where are their parents? Who’s giving them the alcohol and why is it okay for people that young to have alcohol? Especially in that amount of consumption,” questioned Sarah Syski.

Police said 12 teenagers in total are facing charges of possession of alcohol by a minor. Rivera is being charged with furnishing alcohol and contribution to the delinquency of a minor.

All individuals facing charges are expected in court at a later date.
