COVENTRY, R.I. (WPRI) — In less than 24 hours, donors have raised thousands of dollars to help the children of a Coventry couple killed in a motorcycle crash over the weekend.

Brad and Cherilyn Torti were traveling on Tower Hill Rd. Sunday evening when their motorcycle crashed into the side of a car making a left-hand turn. They were rushed to Rhode Island Hospital, where they were pronounced dead.

The couple left behind five children – a 19-year-old and two younger sets of twins.

Following the tragic news, a friend set up a GoFundMe page to raise money to help the family cover funeral expenses and any additional expenses they may incur.

“Please help raise money for their five children who have lost their parents and life as they once knew it,” the page said.torti coventry

The initial goal was $10,000. However, by Tuesday afternoon – just 20 hours after the page was launched – donations exceeded $18,000.

In an update on the GoFundMe page, the family thanked everyone for their generosity.

“The family of Cherilyn and Brad are grateful for the outpouring of love and support from friends, family and the community. Knowing how much Cherilyn and Brad were loved and the amount of lives they touched has been very comforting. They thank you for your love and prayers,” the update read.

One of the couple’s children left the following comment on the GoFundMe page:

“Thank you all for your love and support for my mommy and daddy and for our family. It brings me to tears to see how many people care. Thank you all and God bless.”
