Providence mayor organizes midnight basketball league

Many youths today are in need of a positive alternative to hanging out on street corners and potentially being at the wrong place at the wrong time. Mayor Jorge Elorza and community partners have organized just the alternative.

Kobi Dennis, Founder/Director of Project Night Vision, and Antonio Lopes, GM of the Providence Sky Chiefs, stopped by The Rhode Show to share more about this initiative.

  • The league will reach out to entire families, and alongside the courts there will be city leaders recruiting residents into programs to help them with everything from education to employment.
  • The league will be open to anyone 18 and older, and will consist of 24 teams, meeting in four locations throughout the City. Games will be played every Tuesday and Thursday evening from 9 p.m. – midnight at courts in Bucklin Park, Davis Park, Gano Park and Davey Lopes Recreation Center.
