Three RI beaches closed to swimming due to high bacteria

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WPRI) — The Rhode Island Department of Health has recommended three beaches close down after high bacteria counts were found in the water.

Scarborough State Beach in Narragansett, Easton’s Beach in Newport and Peabody’s Beach in Middletown will remain closed until health officials deem the water safe for swimming.

The health department will continue to monitor the water quality by performing tests until they show healthy bacteria counts.

Beaches can be closed and reopened on a daily basis. Visit our Beach Closures page for up-to-date information on each closure.
