Firefighters put out flames at vacant Central Falls business

CENTRAL FALLS, R.I. (WPRI) — Firefighters were able to quickly extinguish flames that broke out at a vacant Central Falls business Wednesday night.

The fire started at about 8:30 pm. in the metal roof decking on the third floor of the Osram Sylvania Lighting plant on Broad Street, according to Deputy Fire Chief Keith Sullivan. Crews arrived to find heavy flames showing from the roof area.

Firefighters were able to extinguish the fire within an hour, and Sullivan said there does not appear to be a lot of damage.

Sullivan said the building is vacant, but security officers were on the premises.

There were no injuries.

Chief Sullivan said demolition work to the building may have contributed to the fire, but the cause remains under investigation by the state fire marshal’s office.

Crews from Cumberland, Pawtucket, North Providence and Lincoln responded to assist.
