Mass. principal sleeps on roof after losing canned good battle

MATTAPOISETT, Mass. (WPRI) — A principal at a Mattapoisett school woke up Friday morning on top of the world — or at least on top of the school.

Associate Principal Kevin Tavares challenged students to bring in more canned goods than he would to fill a local food bank. If they did, he promised to sleep in a tent on top of the center of the old Hammontown School — and he did.

When asked if he regretted making the bet with he students he said “No, it’s been great. I’ve had a lot of support. The community has really come out. It’s been a great night so far.”

The students collected over two thousand food items for the local food bank.
