WOONSOCKET, R.I. (WPRI) — A celebrated national artist has made his way to Rhode Island to paint an American flag.
Scott Lobaido, the man behind the Painting Flags Across American Tour, said he is on a mission to paint stars and stripes on American Legion Veterans’ posts in every state.
Eyewitness News was there Friday as he unveiled his latest masterpiece in Woonsocket.
When asked what inspires him, Lobaido said it is the flag itself — and the men and women of the armed forces.
“And not is it just because of the flag, because of the men and women of the armed forces of the United States of American who scarified for me. I take that really personal so this is the least I can do,” he said.
Lobaido’s six-month tour started in February and is expected to be completed by September — Rhode Island is the 30th state to receive one of his flag paintings.
Lobaido hopes to raise awareness about veterans, especially the two million under the age of 35 who have sacrificed to serve their country.
