Young cancer patient’s wish granted in time for summer

PAWTUCKET, R.I. (WPRI) — The Make-A-Wish Foundation has granted a Pawtucket boy’s wish just in time for summer.

Sebastian Calado and his family took the first dip in their new pool Wednesday thanks to the organization’s Massachusetts chapter.

The 5-year-old’s summer fun was cut short last July when he was diagnosed with T-cell leukemia. After spending many nights in the hospital, Calado’s mother said the pool is already bringing much-needed joy to her little boy.

“When I can’t make him smile, this pool will make him smile, and that’s hard as a mom, to watch your son cry and be sad,” said Michelle Calado. “This pool, it brought him joy at some of his lowest points, at some of our lowest points. This is what it’s all about.”

Back in November, Cops for Kids with Cancer donated $5,000 to the family to help them with treatment costs not covered by insurance.

The Make-A-Wish Foundation is funded solely through its fundraising efforts.
