PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP/WPRI) — Warwick police say they’ve seized about 65 cases of illegal fireworks worth $45,000 from a residence in the city.
Police charged 50-year-old Javed Mohammad of Warwick with one count of the sale, use or possession of aerial consumed fireworks, a felony under state law.
Police say they conducted surveillance at Mohammad’s home on Palace Avenue on Friday after receiving a tip that illegal fireworks were being sold there. Mohammad was stopped by police after he left in a minivan.
Police say they found illegal aerial fireworks in the vehicle and cases of illegal fireworks in his garage.
Mohammad was arraigned at Warwick police headquarters Friday night. He was released on personal recognizance.
The fireworks were given to the fire marshal’s office to be destroyed.
