Man steals car of airport police officer in N. Smithfield

NORTH SMITHFIELD, R.I. (WPRI) — A stolen Rhode Island vehicle was involved in a police shooting.

According to police, 20-year-old Christen Connors of Worcester has been charged with stealing the vehicle from the North Smithfield home of an off-duty airport police officer on Tuesday.

The officer reported that there was an unloaded .380 Ruger pistol locked in the glove box, an airport police ID and airport police coats in the 2005 Subaru forester Wagon at the time of the theft.

On Thursday, Worcester police attempted to stop the stolen vehicle when Connors tried to run down the officers. Several shots were fired at Connors.

He’s now being held without bail in Massachusetts and faces several charges. Connors also faces criminal charges in Rhode Island.
