DARTMOUTH, Mass. (WPRI) – Dartmouth police arrested an alleged shoplifter after they said she tried fleeing from an officer and crashed into a post office.
It happened at about 1:40 p.m. Saturday, when a Dartmouth police detective responding to the Rite-Aid on Dartmouth Street saw the store manager trying to stop two women who were leaving.
The detective tried to stop the Mitsubishi the two women were driving, but police said they accelerated away from him, jumped a curb and ended up crashing into the loading dock of the United States Post Office next door. The damage to both the building and the car was minor, and nobody was hurt.
The two woman got out of the car and fled on foot. Police said the detective was able to arrest 25-year-old Chante Graham of Fall River after a short chase but the other unidentified woman managed to escape.
Dartmouth police charged Graham with assault with a dangerous weapon, larceny over $250, failure to stop for police, operating to endanger and resisting arrest.
Police reportedly found items taken from the Rite-Aid in the vehicle after the arrest.
